FAQs
How do I determine my level?
Please call the French Institute at 847.501.5800 to answer a few quick questions that will better enable us to place you in a class where you will feel most comfortable.
Can I take more than one class at a time?
Yes, in fact we recommend it. Most of our students take the Prêt-à-Parler conversation course in addition to the regular class. Taking both classes during the same session enhances the student’s ability to retain the learned information.
Do you offer classes for school age children?
We offer private and semi-private lessons. Please call 847.501.5800 for more information.
Can I observe a class before I start?
Yes, we offer a free trial lesson for prospective Level 1 students before the Fall session begins. If you have previously studied French or are looking to join us mid-year, please call 847.501.5800.
Can I make up a class if I know I will be absent?
Yes, you are allowed to make up a class if you are unable to attend the class you are registered for. We ask that you call 847.501.5800 in advance to confirm that the class is taking place and that there is enough space to accommodate you.
What is the average class size?
Class size varies by level and averages between 6-12 students.
Is parking available?
There is 90-minute street parking available on Green Bay Road in front of the French Institute. Four-hour parking is available on the east side of Birch Street.
Who teaches the classes?
We travel to France to hire the best and most experienced native speaking teachers who hold master’s degrees in Teaching French as a Foreign Language.
Do you offer other events?
Yes, we offer cultural events throughout the year. Please visit the Events page on our website for more information.
My experience at the French Institute has been excellent. The quality of instruction is superb, and the teaching style which uses multiple sources of media (slides, cards, props) really helps you learn.
