Maria

Maria

Founder and Executive Director, French Institute of the North Shore and French School
In 1998, Maria used her knowledge and expertise to establish the French Institute of the North Shore. She earned a master’s degree in French Language, Literature and Civilization from Middlebury College where she specialized in the teaching of French. Maria was determined to understand how one acquires a second language and develop the most effective way to teach French. Additionally, she holds a master’s degree in Education. Having lived in Paris for two years during her studies, and frequently traveling to France, Maria appreciates cross-cultural nuances and brings an abundance of travel and cultural insights to the school.

Maria and her husband live in Winnetka with their two daughters and a French Bichon Frisé. Maria and her husband enjoy ballroom dancing, as well as water sports on the French Riviera.

Anne

Anne

Assistant Manager
Anne grew up speaking both French and English and expanded her language skills to include Spanish and American Sign Language. She is currently a sophomore in high school and has contributed to the French Institute for the past several years. With her technology expertise, Anne maintains the French Institute’s website, database and also creates the newsletters. She wants to ensure a wonderful experience for our clients and especially enjoys interacting with them in person and over the phone.

Kathryn

Kathryn

Part-time Manager
Kathryn was raised speaking both French and English and expanded her language skills to include Spanish, German and Italian through European homestays, travels and a year in Madrid. She is currently a romance language major at Dartmouth College, where she is a French drill instructor. Kathryn’s involvement at the French Institute started years ago and has evolved to include every aspect of the business. She manages the French Institute on college breaks and even supports the school remotely when away at Dartmouth. Kathryn would be quick to admit that her favorite part of working at the French Institute is greeting and registering students of all abilities and making their experience here as rewarding as possible.

Adeline

Instructor
Originally from Nîmes in the south of France, Adeline grew up with a love for literature, fine arts, and La Camargue (the natural wetlands near the Rhône Delta), which in turn, are some of her favorite topics for discussion! Adeline is motivated by la francophonie, and is equally excited to teach about French culture, as she is to teach about cultures from other French speaking countries.
